MASH stands for Mansion, Apartment, Shack, House, and it’s a fun fortune-telling game kids (and sometimes adults) play to imagine their future life. It predicts where you’ll live, who you’ll marry, what job you’ll have, how many kids you’ll have, and more, all in a playful way.
What You Need
- A piece of paper
- A pen or pencil
- A friend (optional, but makes it more fun!)
Step 1: Write “MASH” at the Top

Write MASH across the top of the page. These letters represent the possible types of homes you might end up with:
- Mansion
- Apartment
- Shack
- House
Step 2: Pick Categories
Choose the categories you want your “fortune” to predict. Common ones include:
- Future spouse
- Number of children
- Career
- Car type
- City or country you’ll live in
You can add silly categories too, like “pet dinosaur” or “favorite snack.”
Step 3: Add Options Under Each Category
For each category, write down at least 3–4 options. Example for “Career”:
- Doctor
- Actor
- Teacher
- Professional gamer
Make sure to include at least one silly or funny choice in each list to keep the game entertaining.
Step 4: Choose a Number
One person makes a spiral on the page while the other says, “Stop.” Count the number of loops in the spiral—that’s your “magic number.” (If playing solo, just make a random number.)
Step 5: Start Eliminating
Beginning at “M” in MASH, count each option (including the letters M-A-S-H and all category items) up to the magic number. Cross out the option you land on. Keep counting around the page, skipping crossed-out answers, until only one option is left in each category.
Step 6: Reveal Your Future

The last remaining choice in each category (plus one of M-A-S-H) becomes your “fortune.” Example:
- Mansion
- Marrying a movie star
- Driving a broken scooter
- Having 10 kids
- Working as a zookeeper
